Ian Scott Kettle

Fashion Design, Innovation & Branding Consultant

Ian is a well-respected, inspiring and professional consultant & educator, delivering masterclasses in fashion, research & development, and Brand Mentoring, with over twenty 25 experience in the international independent design market.

Ian’s design career has been based on his advanced skills in pattern cutting and refined bespoke construction techniques, as well as a keen eye for architectural design innovation in fashion. Having worked primarily for Dexter Wong, a UK based independent designer as head of womenswear, a brand best know for their 90’s club based aesthetic that sold extensively in London, New York and Paris, while designing commissions for the likes of Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, before stepping out on his own, first in womenswear and then menswear.

Today the DNA of Ian’s eponymous mens accessory brand Ian Scott Kettle centres itself around craft, service, sartorial innovation and sustainability. ‘The typologies I create are ‘constructed’ forms, I have little to no interest in decorative or textural explorations, instead I prefer to work in flat colour and cut shapes to emphasise the structure. ‘ pioneering an exciting new wave in bespoke menswear accessories. The work is informed by a love for art history and extensive knowledge of traditional gentlemen's cloth accessories, re-imagined through classic bespoke construction and modern cutting methods. Re-working classic accessories such as the bow tie, cummerbund, cravat and neck tie while also working to reintroduce typologies that have been lost to time, such as the band, jabot, coif and chaperon.

Setting aside the fixed fashion schedule he has professionally adhered to for over twenty five years and adopting a fully bespoke, face-to-face client ‘service’ instead, has allowed for the intimacy and uniqueness necessary for a small design driven business to survive today.
